A Nation of Wimps: The High Cost of Invasive Parenting: Intro

I have heard nothing of this book coming into reading. I have never read anything by the author before. Have never really read a non-fiction story before, only for research and school-required reading.
All this said, I look forward to reading this book. I saw it on the top of the library shelf, and I was immediately hooked. My dad has made me very aware of how present invasive parents are in my surroundings. He umpires local little league baseball games for 8-12 year olds. I always can look forward to hearing tales of when parents flip out on him. These are often the parents that make their sons play baseball, even if the kids don’t want to. I have read the intro and first chapter already, and a main cause of “helicopter parenting” has been that parents are trying to re-live their younger days through their kids, and the kids suffer as a result. It’s been clear to me for a long time that this style of parenting can’t be good for kids. So I look forward to reading about the exact causes and effects of invasive parenting. Which I just realized ties in well with the writing unit. It should be great!
